CVC DIF buys majority of Italy's EcoEridania in first deal since Milan launch
What's the deal? CVCDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → DIF, the infrastructure arm of private equity manager CVC, has agreed to acquire a majority stake in EcoEridania, Italy's leading medical waste management operator. The investment will be made through DIF Infrastructure VIII and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to customary conditions.
Who's involved? Founded in 1988 in Genoa, EcoEridania handles end-to-end waste collection, transportation, storage, treatment, recovery, and disposal for healthcare and industrial customers. In 2025, it served around 27,000 clients through 22 treatment and disposal facilities, ran around 1,600 vehicles, and managed roughly 1.3 million tons of waste.
The terms: The transaction involved the indirect disposal of a 75% interest in EcoEridania by iCON InfrastructureDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Operations (UK) Limited, affiliated with iCON Infrastructure LLP. Founder and chief executive officer Andrea Giustini will increase his significant minority stake, signalling continued commitment to the company.
Why now? The deal marks CVC DIF's first investment in Italy since opening its Milan office in 2024. "Italy is a strategic market for CVC DIF, and EcoEridania is exactly the type of high-quality, essential infrastructure business that we set out to invest in," said Roberta Battaglia, head of CVC DIF Italy.
What's the endgame? CVC DIF plans to strengthen EcoEridania's nationwide platform and pursue organic and inorganic growth in key waste segments. Giustini pointed to growth beyond Italy: "Our objective remains unchanged: to continue investing, innovating and strengthening our presence in Italy, while pursuing new opportunities."
The signal: The deal reflects investor appetite for essential infrastructure with predictable demand. "This investment reflects our conviction in the long-term value of essential infrastructure," said Tom Goossens, co-head of DIF Infra Funds, who also flagged EcoEridania's "fast-growing industrial waste platform" as a source of further upside.
