What's the endgame? Provilac is building a new category of everyday dairy around protein-rich nutrition. Its flagship milk delivers 25 grams of protein in a 250ml serving — roughly three times regular milk — using ultrafiltration to concentrate milk's natural protein rather than adding powders. The product is lactose-free and suitable for all ages.
The details: Provilac now serves more than 50,000 households daily, mostly through its own app on a subscription model. It runs an integrated fresh-dairy operation for tighter control over quality from source to doorstep, with third-party testing every three months at NABL-accredited laboratories.
Why now? The company spent more than a decade as a bootstrapped business before taking outside capital. "India does not need to import its way to better protein nutrition when the answer already lies in our own milk," said founder and chief executive Siddharth Runwal.
What's next? Provilac currently operates in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, and Jaipur through its app. It is expanding into Bangalore via FirstClub and Blinkit Gourmet, and plans to add high-protein dairy fortified with vitamins and micronutrients alongside new fresh-dairy formats.
The signal: At $14 million, the round sits in the top tenth of all early-stage venture deals in India's food sector. "India's protein gap is one of the country's largest unmet nutrition needs," said Shilpa Kulkarni, general partner at Panthera Growth Partners, pointing to rising willingness among consumers to pay for better everyday nutrition.
