Jerry’s to acquire three Minnesota Cub stores, taking over Monticello in September

What changes for customers? Little, at least at first. The Monticello store will stay a Cub, keep its pharmacy and normal hours, and continue Cub Rewards.
What's the endgame? Jerry's already runs 17 Cub Foods stores in Minnesota, including nearby Rogers and Elk River. President Ben Schultes said the concentration made Monticello "just kind of fit in with the others."
Why now? Cub representative Ashley Gengler said the three stores sit near existing Jerry's franchises, offering operational benefits. Transitioning them "allows for faster investment in these locations," she said, "supporting our broader efforts to build a stronger, more competitive network of Cub stores across Minnesota."
What about staff? Schultes said Jerry's expects to retain Monticello employees who want to stay, folding them into its systems. Operating stores as one group could also let workers transfer or advance, he added.
What's next? Jerry's plans to assess the store before deciding on renovations or capital improvements. Because grocers stay busy over the holidays, any substantial upgrades in Monticello likely wouldn't begin until 2027.
The signal: The deal reflects a franchisee consolidating clusters of stores along a growth corridor — the Interstate 94 stretch from Maple Grove through Monticello — that Schultes sees as ripe for expansion. "I don't think the customers are going to notice a whole lot initially," he said.
