Aprogen raises KRW 2 billion in convertible bond issuance
What's the deal? Aprogen, a South Korean biotechnology and pharmaceutical company, has raised KRW 2 billion (roughly $1.4 million) through a private placement of convertible bonds. The company completed the issuance and payment of its 33rd series of bearer-type, unsecured private convertible bonds, following a board resolution earlier in August.
What's the endgame? Aprogen develops and commercialises biologic therapies. The company said the raise strengthens its financial flexibility and provides capital to support ongoing operational and strategic initiatives.
Why convertible bonds? The instrument lets Aprogen meet immediate funding needs while deferring equity dilution until any future conversion. It is a financing route the company has used repeatedly to back its R&D pipeline.
The signal: The issuance reflects Aprogen's continued reliance on hybrid financing to balance capital needs against dilution. With a market capitalisation of KRW 6.75 billion, the raise is a meaningful addition to the company's funding base as it navigates market conditions.
