What's the endgame? StratGrid is building two large developments in southern Alberta powered by on-site natural gas generation. Project Wheatland is planned at roughly 200MW with scope to exceed 1GW, while Project Mountain View is designed to scale beyond 2GW.
Why now? Power has become one of the biggest constraints on new AI infrastructure. StratGrid combines generation and hosting on the same site to speed up access to electricity, offering long-term power purchase agreements, high-performance computing, and colocation.
What are they saying? Jet.AI founder and executive chairman Mike Winston said the behind-the-meter approach is intended to solve the difficulty of bringing reliable, competitively priced electricity online quickly enough for AI demand. StratGrid chief executive David Sealock said the investment strengthens its capital base as it advances engineering, regulatory, and land work.
The deal fits Jet.AI's broader repositioning. After shedding its aviation business, the company has built out data centre plans in Las Vegas, Winnipeg, and Clark County, Nevada.
