Elevate Capital and Moharram family acquire Egypt's Nile Scan and Labs for EGP 1bn
What's the deal? Elevate Capital and members of the Moharram family have signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of Nile Scan and Labs, one of Egypt's leading diagnostic imaging and laboratory providers. The transaction is valued at roughly EGP 1bn (about USD 19.5m) and remains subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
Founded nearly three decades ago by the late Hazem Moharram, Nile Scan and Labs serves more than 150,000 patients a year through over 20 diagnostic centres and employs more than 800 professionals.
What's the endgame? Elevate Capital wants to build one of the region's leading integrated healthcare platforms, spanning diagnostics, hospitals, outpatient care, pharmacies, and digital health across Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa. Its existing assets include Gustave Roussy International Egypt, New Giza University Hospital, and Nile Health Pharmacies.
The company will keep operating under its own brand while integrating more closely with Elevate's wider portfolio.

"This transaction marks the beginning of an important new chapter in the journey of Nile Scan and Labs," said Tarek Moharram, chairperson and founder of Elevate Capital. He said the deal will strengthen investment in innovation and artificial intelligence and support expansion across African markets.
What's next? The consortium plans selective acquisitions, digital transformation, and AI-powered diagnostics, with a particular focus on high-growth African markets. It also flagged a potential future listing on the Egyptian Exchange when market conditions allow.
The signal: The deal reflects growing private investor appetite for consolidating fragmented healthcare services across Egypt and Africa into single, scalable platforms.
