Estée buys cat smart-toilet maker Toletta in 100% acquisition

What's the deal? Estée Co.Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Tokyo-listed maker of deodorisers, insect repellents and pet care goods, has acquired 100% of Toletta CatsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Fujisawa-based startup behind the "Toletta" smart cat toilet. The Japanese startup became part of the Estée group on July 17, 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed.

What does Toletta do? Founded in 2015, the company sells a smart litter box that automatically records a cat's weight, urine volume and frequency. Its vet-supervised app alerts owners to changes and can share data with more than 100 partner veterinary clinics, while an AI camera identifies individual cats in multi-cat homes.

The rationale: Estée has framed itself as a "wellness company" and treats pet care as a core business within that push. It plans to combine Toletta's smart-toilet technology and healthcare data with its own brand strength and product development.

Leadership: Kazuki Fujiwara becomes representative director of Toletta Cats, leading the company under its new ownership. He was already the startup's representative director before the deal.

What changes for customers? Nothing, for now. Toletta says its service continues unchanged, and it will announce any future changes through its website.

The signal: The deal shows established consumer-goods firms buying data-rich pet tech to anchor their move into wellness — folding a startup's health monitoring into a mass-market brand.
