UAE's Edge to acquire 100% of Brazilian aerospace firm Akaer

What's the deal? Edge, a United Arab Emirates group focused on advanced technology and defence, announced on July 16 an agreement to acquire 100% of Brazilian aerospace engineering company AkaerDealroom has a profile for this one. What does Akaer do? The Brazilian firm operates in aerospace engineering, producing devices such as the Opto-ThermoScan for body temperature control. It already works with Edge on developing and industrialising unmanned systems.

What's the endgame? Edge said the acquisition will strengthen its ability to meet industrialisation timelines for strategic unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) programmes. It also expands the group's competencies in optronics, electro-optical and infrared systems, and space-related technologies.

Why it matters: The deal deepens an existing partnership, moving Edge from collaboration to full ownership. Edge said its priority is ensuring continuity for Akaer's staff, programmes, and clients.

The signal: The acquisition marks another step in the UAE's push to build out its defence and aerospace industrial base through foreign deals, extending its reach into Brazil's aerospace engineering sector.
