Zhimei Xingchen raises ~¥200M strategic round for AI skincare tech
What's the deal? Zhimei Xingchen, a Chinese AI-powered skincare technology company, has closed a strategic funding round of nearly ¥200M (roughly $27M). The round was backed by A-share listed medical device maker Mailand (stock code: 688273), Guoshi Zhida Capital, and existing shareholders.
The company builds AI and digital tools for the skincare industry, combining smart devices with skincare products to offer what it calls a "one-stop" solution. Its focus is on bringing AI-driven diagnostics and treatment instruments to frontline skincare clinics and providers.
Why now? China's beauty and skincare market is booming, and demand for tech-enabled skin analysis and treatment tools is growing fast. The involvement of Mailand — a publicly listed medical device company — signals that established healthcare players see commercial value in merging AI with skincare hardware.
What could go wrong? AI skincare diagnostics remain a nascent field with limited regulatory clarity, particularly in China's tightly controlled medical device market. Zhimei Xingchen will need to prove its technology delivers reliable clinical outcomes to win trust from both practitioners and consumers.
Competition is also intensifying. Several Chinese and global startups are racing to apply computer vision and machine learning to dermatology, which could squeeze margins and make differentiation harder.
The signal: This deal reflects a broader trend of AI moving beyond software into physical health and beauty products. Investors are betting that combining hardware with intelligent software — rather than selling either alone — creates stickier, higher-margin businesses. The skincare sector, sitting at the intersection of healthcare and consumer spending, is emerging as a fertile testing ground for that thesis in China.
