Founded in 2022 by Anand Yadav and Gaurang Kuchhal, Mekr operates as an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) for home and kitchen appliances, personal care items, and car accessories. It offers an integrated platform managing the full product lifecycle — from concept and prototyping to certification and mass manufacturing.
The company has developed over 100 SKUs and partnered with more than 40 brands, including CromaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, WiproDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Amazon Basics, and Flipkart.
Why now? India's small home appliances market is estimated at over ₹40,000 crore and growing at a 7–9% CAGR — yet it remains heavily dependent on imports. Mekr aims to fill that gap with localised, energy-efficient manufacturing that can compete globally.
Vikas Verma, a partner at Avaana Capital, said Mekr's design-led approach addresses India's structural reliance on imported components for domestic appliances.
The fresh capital will go toward R&D, product engineering, proprietary tooling, supplier localisation, manufacturing automation, and export readiness. The founders said their vision is to make India self-reliant in electronics manufacturing while producing goods at globally competitive costs.
What could go wrong? Building a full-stack manufacturing platform is capital-intensive and operationally complex. Localising supply chains takes time, and competing with established Chinese ODMs on cost and scale is no small feat. Export ambitions will also require navigating varied regulatory and certification regimes.
The signal: Avaana Capital, an investment fund backing Mekr at the early growth stage, is placing a bet on India's capacity to replace imported consumer electronics with domestically designed and manufactured alternatives. With over 40 brand partnerships already secured — spanning late-growth players like Wipro to major retail platforms — Mekr's traction suggests genuine demand for a homegrown ODM capable of competing with entrenched Chinese suppliers on both cost and speed.
