Qatar's SHIFT Group invests in Bahrain-based live shopping platform Siin

What's the deal? SHIFT Group, a Qatar-based diversified business group, has announced an investment and partnership with Siin, a Bahrain-based live commerce platform. The agreement was signed on May 11, 2026, at SHIFT Group's headquarters in Doha by Joy Alvarez, chief executive officer of SHIFT Group, and Hesham AlSaati, co-founder and chief executive officer of Siin.

The deal will see Siin work with SHIFT Group's trading card and collectibles hub, Art of Cardz, to bring livestream commerce and digital auction infrastructure to Qatar's growing collectibles community. Qatar Living, a digital media and marketplace platform under SHIFT Group, will provide media exposure and promotional support.

Why now? Founded in Bahrain in 2024, Siin is positioning itself as the Gulf's leading social commerce platform, combining live streaming, real-time auctions, and marketplace features. It already operates across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Qatar.

SHIFT Group said the investment reflects its focus on supporting technology-driven platforms that contribute to the future of digital commerce and entrepreneurship in the region. The partnership aligns with its broader vision of driving business growth through innovation and technology-driven transformation.

What could go wrong? Live commerce has exploded in Asia — particularly China — but has struggled to gain the same traction in Western and Middle Eastern markets. Siin will need to prove that Gulf consumers are ready to adopt livestream shopping at scale, a model that depends heavily on creator-led engagement and real-time trust between buyers and sellers.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, making it difficult to gauge the depth of SHIFT Group's commitment.

The signal: The partnership points to growing appetite among Gulf conglomerates for digital commerce bets, particularly those blending entertainment with transactions — so-called "phygital" experiences. As GCC economies diversify away from oil, live and social commerce platforms like Siin represent a new frontier for regional e-commerce, one that prioritises community interaction over traditional retail.
