Hoplon AI raises $1M to shield small businesses from hackers
What's the deal? Hoplon AI, a cybersecurity startup led by Greek-born chief executive Yiannis Kostakis, has closed a $1M seed round to build autonomous AI agents that protect small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from cyberattacks. UK-based venture capital firm Haatch led the round, with participation from Genesis Ventures and a group of angel investors.
Why now? SMEs are increasingly targeted by hackers yet rarely have the budget or staff for enterprise-grade security. Hoplon AI aims to make cybersecurity "invisible, smart, and affordable" — a pitch that resonates as AI-driven threats grow more sophisticated and frequent.
What could go wrong? The cybersecurity market is crowded, and a $1M seed round is modest by industry standards. Hoplon AI will need to prove its autonomous agents can deliver real protection — not just automation theatre — before larger competitors move further into the SME segment.
The signal: This deal reflects two converging trends: the rise of agentic AI applied to security tasks, and growing investor appetite for startups that bring enterprise-level tools down-market to smaller businesses. As cyber threats scale, so does the opportunity for lean, AI-native defenders.
