Halcyon Equity Partners invests in Greek smart transport tech firm AMCO
What's the deal? Luxembourg-based private equity fund Halcyon Equity Partners has made a strategic investment in AMCO, a Greek technology company that builds hardware and software for intelligent transport systems (ITS), micromobility, and smart city applications. The deal's financial terms were not disclosed.
The investment falls under Halcyon's broader "Invest in the Best of Greece" strategy, which targets Greek companies with strong technical expertise and international growth potential.
Founded in 2005, AMCO designs and manufactures passenger information systems, fare collection systems, smart parking solutions, and micromobility platforms. It has delivered projects for hundreds of public and private clients across more than ten countries, operating from a modern electronics manufacturing facility in Corinth, Greece.
Why now? Urban mobility infrastructure is undergoing a global overhaul as cities invest in smarter transport and sustainability. AMCO's in-house design and production model — letting it offer end-to-end hardware-software solutions with after-sales support — positions it well for this wave of spending.
"We are ready to accelerate our growth trajectory, invest even more in innovation, and strengthen our international presence," said Nikos Markellos, AMCO's founder and chief executive officer.
What could go wrong? Smart city procurement is heavily dependent on public-sector budgets and political priorities, which can shift quickly. Expanding internationally from a relatively small Greek base also means competing against larger, better-capitalised incumbents in Western European and global markets.
The signal: The deal reflects growing private equity appetite for niche deep-tech companies in Southern Europe — particularly those that combine hardware manufacturing with proprietary software. Greece's tech ecosystem, long overshadowed by hubs in Western and Northern Europe, is drawing more institutional capital as investors hunt for undervalued companies with export potential.
Lykourgos Galanopoulos, partner at Halcyon Equity Partners, called AMCO "an excellent example of a Greek technology company with high expertise and clear international momentum."
