Polish iced tea startup SIP raises PLN 3M to shake up Europe's RTD market
What's the deal? SIP Next Generation DrinksDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Polish startup behind the iced tea brand SIP Happens, has closed its first funding round at PLN 3M (roughly €700K). The round was led by Argon fund, with additional investors coming through the Cobin Angels community.
The company was founded by Michał Czerwiński, Artur Gajewski, and Wojciech Bubak — the team behind Polish health-food brands Purella Superfoods and BeRAW — with support from fitness influencer Ewa Chodakowska and Lefteris Kavoukis.
SIP Happens aims to reinvent the ready-to-drink iced tea category with functional beverages built on natural ingredients and a proprietary formula called SIP Boost Complex.
Why now? The founders see iced tea as a large but stagnant category ripe for disruption. "The category has been big for years, but also predictable and lacking innovation," said Czerwiński, the company's chief executive officer. "Consumers expect much more today."
SIP is designed as a digital-native brand, betting on content, community, and a network of micro- and nano-influencers as its primary growth engine — a model that reflects how younger consumers discover and trust brands.
The brand launches in Poland on May 20, 2026, debuting in Żabka, the country's largest convenience chain. It will simultaneously begin expanding into the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, and Scandinavian markets.
What could go wrong? The European RTD tea market is dominated by well-funded incumbents like Lipton and Fuze Tea. Competing on shelf space — especially across multiple countries at once — will require far more capital than PLN 3M.
The founders' track record with Purella and BeRAW lends credibility, but functional beverages are a crowded space where differentiation is hard to sustain.
The signal: SIP's round is a textbook example of experienced Central and Eastern European founders recycling consumer-brand expertise into new ventures — a pattern increasingly attractive to early-stage investors in the region. Dealroom classifies SIP as already at the "early growth" stage despite only now closing its first round, suggesting the team's track record with Purella Superfoods and BeRAW is compressing the typical startup timeline. Whether that founder premium translates into shelf-space wins against Lipton and Fuze Tea across five markets simultaneously will be the real test of the PLN 3M war chest.
