Slovenian toothbrush startup Fresh32 raises €1.2M to reinvent oral care
What's the deal? Fresh32, a Slovenian consumer health startup, has closed a €1.2M funding round led by AYMO Ventures, with participation from Tivoli Partners, Business Angels of Slovenia, and SMOK Angels CEE. The company makes toothbrushes built on its proprietary 3D Bristle Dynamics technology, which replaces traditional nylon bristles with flexible TPU fibres that it claims clean effectively while being gentler on gums and enamel.
The startup was founded by Jan Habat and Domen Nemanič. It says it has acquired over 50,000 customers in under a year.
Why now? Fresh32 plans to use the capital in stages: first to improve profitability, launch new products — including a children's line and oral biotics — and optimise marketing and production. The next phase targets international expansion, starting with the UK.
The round also brings in strategic angel investors from Central and Eastern Europe, including Piotr Kondrat and the SMOK Angels CEE network, which says it has invested in 17 regional startups since July 2025. Kondrat reportedly backed Fresh32 for its brand strength and technological moat — a competitive advantage he sees as hard for rivals to replicate quickly.
Fresh32 recently won a regional round of the Startup World Cup and says it will compete in the global finals in San Francisco.
What could go wrong? Oral care is a mature, fiercely competitive market dominated by giants like Procter & Gamble and Colgate-Palmolive. Convincing consumers to switch from familiar products — or to pay a premium for a new brushing technology — is no small task, especially for a young brand scaling internationally for the first time.
The company's claims about gentler, more effective cleaning still need broader clinical validation to build trust with dentists and consumers at scale. And €1.2M, while meaningful for an early-stage company, leaves limited room for error across product development, manufacturing, and multi-market expansion simultaneously.
The signal: Fresh32 reflects a broader trend of startups targeting everyday consumer products with material science innovations and sustainability angles. Its recyclable brush heads and lifetime-guaranteed handles tap into growing demand for less wasteful personal care. The involvement of CEE-focused angel networks like SMOK Angels also highlights the region's maturing early-stage investment ecosystem, increasingly connecting local startups with cross-border capital and expertise.
