MedGenome takes majority stake in Mumbai's Siddhi Diagnostics

MedGenome, a genomics-driven diagnostics and research company, has acquired a majority stake in Siddhi Diagnostics & Research Centre (SDRC), a Mumbai-based diagnostic imaging provider. The deal strengthens MedGenome's presence across Mumbai's extended western suburbs and expands its integrated diagnostics offering in the region.
SDRC was founded in 1995 and operates five diagnostic centres across the Mumbai metropolitan region. It is led by Dr Ajit Pungavkar and Dr Sona Pungavkar.
The company's services include MRI, CT scans, X-ray, sonography, mammography, cardiac investigations, bone mineral density testing, and interventional diagnostics. Its infrastructure spans four MRI systems and five CT systems across its network.
Why now? The collaboration aims to broaden access to advanced diagnostics and imaging services across suburban areas including Nalasopara, Vasai, Virar, and Thane — fast-growing parts of the Mumbai metropolitan region where healthcare infrastructure has historically lagged behind the city centre.
For MedGenome, which specialises in genomics-driven diagnostics and research, the acquisition offers an established physical footprint and three decades of operational history in diagnostic imaging — capabilities that complement its own genomics expertise.
What could go wrong? Integrating a 30-year-old imaging-focused operation with a genomics-driven company brings cultural and operational challenges. Suburban markets also tend to be price-sensitive, which could pressure margins as MedGenome invests in expanding services.
