Geistlich takes majority stake in France's O.S.T Développement
What's the deal? Geistlich PharmaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Swiss medtech company based in the canton of Lucerne, has acquired a majority stake in French tissue bank and medical technology firm O.S.T Développement. The deal, effective May 1, 2026, expands Geistlich's allograft portfolio for dentistry and gives it control of O.S.T's orthopedics business.
Allografts are tissue transplants transferred from one person to another. O.S.T, headquartered in Saint-Beauzire, France, markets its dental allogeneic products under the brand name Allodyn.
Why now? Geistlich first took a minority stake in O.S.T in 2024, and the partnership has already borne fruit. "The launch of Allodyn in France and the UK has been a real success story for us, with consistent growth from the start, excellent feedback from dentists and strong engagement from our sales team," said Sandrine Dupriez, regional manager Europe at Geistlich.
Distribution partners are now rolling out Allodyn across additional European markets, making this an opportune moment to deepen the relationship.
What could go wrong? Integrating a French tissue bank with a Swiss medtech firm brings regulatory complexity — allograft products face strict oversight that varies by country. Scaling across multiple European markets simultaneously also carries execution risk.
The signal: Geistlich Pharma, classified by Dealroom as a mature-stage company, is following a classic playbook for established medtech firms: using a staged minority-to-majority acquisition to de-risk entry into new clinical verticals. With orthopedics accounting for roughly 70% of O.S.T's sales, the deal effectively transforms Geistlich from a regenerative dentistry specialist into a multi-specialty tissue-engineering platform — a strategic pivot that could reshape its competitive positioning across European markets.
