VentureTECH backs Pacton's FishSpeak to scale AI aquaculture across ASEAN

What's the deal? Malaysian government-backed impact investor VentureTECHDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Sdn Bhd has made a strategic investment in Pacton Technologies Sdn Bhd, the company behind FishSpeak — an AI- and IoT-powered platform that provides real-time intelligence for fish and shrimp farms. The deal size was not disclosed.

FishSpeak uses proprietary computer-vision models, AI advisory tools, and IoT integration to help aquaculture operators detect disease earlier, reduce feed waste, and make better data-driven decisions — even via WhatsApp.

The investment will fund Pacton's next growth phase: advancing its AI capabilities, scaling commercial deployments, and expanding into Indonesia, Vietnam, Brunei, and the Philippines.

Why now? Aquaculture across Southeast Asia faces persistent problems — delayed disease detection, feed wastage, rising input costs, and limited digital adoption — all of which drag on productivity. FishSpeak has already been deployed across more than 50 aquaculture sites in Malaysia through the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation's Digital AgTech Programme, and it is pursuing commercial opportunities in Indonesia.

"FishSpeak was built to make advanced AI accessible at the farm level," said Pacton founder and managing director Faisal Shadli. The platform has shown measurable improvements in feed efficiency, farm visibility, and early risk detection across pilot sites.

What could go wrong? Scaling agri-tech across ASEAN is notoriously difficult. Each market has different regulatory frameworks, infrastructure gaps, and farmer adoption curves. Smallholder aquaculture operators — the platform's target users — often lack reliable internet connectivity and digital literacy, which could slow rollout despite the WhatsApp-based interface.

Without a disclosed funding figure, it is also hard to gauge whether Pacton has the capital runway to execute a multi-country expansion.

The signal: The deal reflects two converging trends. First, Southeast Asian governments are increasingly channelling investment into agri-tech and food security, viewing them as strategic priorities. VentureTECH's mandate explicitly targets high-growth sectors aligned with Malaysia's Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035.

Second, AI-powered platforms are moving beyond row crops and livestock into aquaculture — a sector that produces more than half the world's seafood yet remains largely analogue. If FishSpeak can prove its model across diverse ASEAN markets, it could become an early category leader in a space with few scaled competitors.
