Profluent Raises $106 Million to Advance AI-Driven Protein Design with Support from Bezos
Profluent Bio has secured a new financing round of $106 million to accelerate its work on generative-AI models for protein design. The round is co-led by Altimeter Capital and Bezos Expeditions, signalling Jeff BezosDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →’s backing of the company and underscoring rising investor interest in the intersection of artificial intelligence and molecular biology.
Founded in 2022 and based in Emeryville, California, Profluent develops large-scale “protein language models” capable of designing new proteins with defined functions. Its stated ambition is to shift biology from discovery to deliberate design.
The company says its Protein Atlas now includes more than 115 billion unique proteins, which it describes as the world’s largest catalogue of its kind. These resources support applications ranging from therapeutics and gene editing to agriculture and biomanufacturing.
CEO Ali MadaniDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → said the funding will help the company scale its modelling infrastructure, expand its product pipeline and speed the transition of AI-designed proteins from laboratory research to practical use. He emphasised Profluent’s goal of making biology more predictable and controllable through computational design rather than trial-and-error science.
The investment reflects a broader shift in the life sciences, where AI-based design tools are increasingly seen as a way to shorten development cycles and reduce costs. At the same time, practical deployment remains dependent on experimental validation, regulatory approval and the realities of working with biological systems, which rarely behave as neatly as computational models suggest.
