xAI raises $5B to build next-gen AI infrastructure — and it's just the beginning

Elon Musk’s AI startup, xAI, has raised $5 billion to supercharge its ambitious plans for artificial intelligence. The funding will help the company build a massive new data center powered by 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, designed to support advanced AI training and compete with the biggest names in the industry.

A major portion of the round reportedly came from SpaceX, which invested $2 billion—a rare cross-investment move that highlights Musk’s broader vision to connect his companies more closely. xAI also recently merged with X (formerly Twitter), signaling an effort to integrate AI more deeply into the social media and content space.

But this is just phase one. According to reports, xAI is already preparing for a new fundraising round that could value the company between $170 billion and $200 billion. Talks are underway with global investors, including major sovereign wealth funds.

In just a short time, xAI has gone from stealth mode to a high-stakes player in the global AI race. Now armed with billions in funding and the backing of Musk’s corporate ecosystem, the company is positioning itself at the intersection of AI, infrastructure, and social platforms—with much more to come.
