CycleØ acquires Spanish waste facility to boost biomethane output
On June 27, CycleØDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a renewable gas company, acquired GARYC (Grupo Azón Ramón y Cajal S.L.), a municipal waste treatment facility based in Zaragoza, Spain. This deal marks CycleØ’s first move into converting urban waste into biomethane, expanding its focus beyond agricultural feedstocks.
GARYC currently processes around 121,000 tonnes of non-hazardous municipal waste annually. Under CycleØ’s management, the plant will be upgraded to produce approximately 3.7 million cubic meters of biogas per year—equivalent to about 26 GWh of energy. This biogas will be purified into grid-quality biomethane and delivered via virtual pipeline, supplying energy to roughly 4,000 homes.
The acquisition is part of CycleØ’s broader €200 million investment strategy to expand Spain’s renewable gas infrastructure. It also reinforces the company’s ambition to cover the full biomethane value chain—from waste intake to gas distribution—while supporting national decarbonization targets.
CycleØ confirmed that the existing workforce will be retained to support the transition. According to GARYC co-founder Pedro Azón Ramón y Cajal, the acquisition ensures continuity, fresh investment, and a long-term positive environmental impact for the region.
