2D Photonics Secures €25M to Advance Graphene Photonics

2D Photonics, a company specialising in graphene-based photonics, has raised €25 million in a Series A funding round.

The funding will support the expansion of R&D, the establishment of a pilot manufacturing facility in Milan, and the growth of its senior team.

The company focuses on integrating graphene modulators and photodetectors into silicon chips for faster, more energy-efficient optical transceivers, targeting data centres, AI, and communications markets.

With the new investment, 2D Photonics aims to accelerate product development, move towards mass production, and expand into sectors such as automotive and aerospace.

2D Photonics was established as the new group holding company to own and manage CamGraPhIC’s activities in the UK and Italy in order to streamline operations and drive commercialisation efforts. The company’s restructuring enables a unified approach to scaling its technology and pursuing global partnerships.
