Applied Atomics Raising $2 Million
Applied Atomics recently emerged from stealth, announcing an oversubscribed $2 million pre-seed funding round led by Alpaca VC. The company was founded by engineers with backgrounds in launch and infrastructure projects from the New Space sector, including experience on the Falcon 9 program.
The company is developing co-located small modular reactor (SMR) powerplants designed to provide clean, scalable energy to industries with high electricity demands—such as data centers, hydrogen production, desalination, and e-fuel manufacturing.
They use Gen III+ light water reactor designs and commercially available low-enriched uranium (LEU) fuel, allowing for faster deployment and regulatory approval. By designing the full powerplant—not just the reactor—they aim to reduce complexity and better manage project timelines and costs.
