Prominent self-driving tech company, acquired Uber's self-driving unit, backed by Uber

Aurora, established in 2017 by Chris Urmson, Sterling Anderson, and Drew Bagnell, is a prominent company in the self-driving technology industry. The company's core project is the "Aurora Driver," a comprehensive platform that integrates software, hardware, and data services to operate a variety of vehicles including passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks.

In 2020, Aurora enhanced its capabilities by acquiring Uber's self-driving unit, Advanced Technologies Group (ATG). This strategic move not only accelerated Aurora's progress towards delivering its first product but also brought in Uber's expertise and resources, significantly bolstering Aurora’s standing in the autonomous vehicle sector. As part of the acquisition, Uber invested $400 million in Aurora, and Uber’s CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, joined Aurora's board.
