What's the endgame? Aeon is building a cyber defence suite for critical industries across the Global South, starting with Nigeria. It comprises Aeon Edge, a hardware device that secures networks at the perimeter, and Aeon Console, an AI-powered portal that monitors and fixes vulnerabilities across code, cloud, and endpoints.
The three co-founders — Samuel Ogbonyomi, Ben Eluan, and Alex Idowu — built Aeon within PipeOpsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a cloud infrastructure management platform. That work exposed a gap in the tools available to protect modern infrastructure.
Why now? Attacks on African institutions are growing more costly and sophisticated. INTERPOL estimates cyber incidents across Africa have caused more than $3 billion in losses since 2019, with finance, healthcare, energy, and government hardest hit.
Attackers, including non-state actors and foreign adversaries, are also using AI to increase the speed and scale of attacks. Existing tools are fragmented and lack the intelligence to defend across multiple attack surfaces at once.
"Almost every operator we worked with had a dozen security tools and no single view of their exposure," said Ogbonyomi. "We built Aeon so a bank or a grid operator can see and fix its whole attack surface from one place."
What's the money for? Aeon will improve its products, expand its engineering team, and convert pilots into commercial deployments across Nigeria's financial sector, cloud providers, and critical infrastructure operators. It has already begun pilots with financial services and cloud infrastructure businesses.
Aeon also piloted with Terra Industries earlier this year. The two have since formed a commercial joint venture to co-execute contracts for corporate and government clients, with Terra protecting physical assets and Aeon protecting digital ones.
The signal: The round reflects a push to build sovereign security infrastructure tailored to the Global South's own regulations and institutions. "We see Aeon becoming the sovereign cyber defense layer for the Global South, where financial institutions, large corporations, governments and militaries run their cyber operations on Aeon's infrastructure," said Nathan Nwachuku, chief executive officer of Terra Industries.
