Nomos raises €20M to turn installers into power companies

Bolt CEO Markus VilligDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, UiPath founder Daniel DinesDealroom has a profile for this one. What's the endgame? Founded in 2023 by Stefan Gerbes and Nils Bitzer, Nomos operates as a regulated electricity supplier that connects home batteries, electric vehicles, and heat pumps to Germany's power market. It lets installers and equipment makers sell electricity plans under their own brands while Nomos handles procurement, metering, balancing, and billing.
Why now? Gerbes frames the mission around Europe's energy costs. "We are paying twice as much as people in the US and China for electricity, a situation which makes it difficult for both the quality of life and for Europe's competitiveness," he told Tech Funding News.
The International Energy Agency says industrial electricity prices in the EU are more than double those in the US, and German households pay some of the highest rates in Europe.
By the numbers: The round sits in the top 7% by size among all-time early-stage energy deals in Germany, based on a sample of 149 rounds. With a €1.9 million pre-seed led by Speedinvest in October 2024, total funding reaches around €22 million, earmarked for product launches, hiring, and later European expansion.
What could go wrong? Gerbes names inertia and high energy costs as his main rivals, but the market is crowded. Ostrom recently raised €20 million from EnecoDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → for a total above €40 million; Cloover secured a $100 million credit facility; and Norway's Tibber has raised about $180 million for its direct-to-consumer model.
Bastian Hasslinger, the Index partner leading the deal, called Nomos "technically uncompromising" and "ambitious enough to aim at the whole market." Its partners include thermondo, Energiekonzepte DeutschlandDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and IKEADealroom has a profile for this one. The signal: Europe's push to electrify homes is spawning a new class of "neo-utilities" that turn hardware installers into energy retailers. The open question is whether Nomos's invisible-infrastructure model can outpace rivals that own the customer relationship directly.
