What does it do? Founded by Badr Bounafaa (CEO) and Roy Engelen (CTO), Flottando builds an AI operating system for corporate fleet management. It targets what the company calls the "Fragmentation Tax" — the cost that accumulates when administration, HR, procurement, and IT each handle a piece of the fleet.
How it works: Rather than surfacing data on a dashboard, its system executes tasks directly — coding invoices into ERP systems, centralizing fringe benefit calculations, and flagging mileage before overages trigger penalties. AI ingests and classifies invoices, contracts, and fines, binding each to the correct vehicle, driver, and cost center.
Why Italy? Flottando was built in Switzerland but proved its model in Italy, chosen as the most administratively demanding fleet market in Europe. Its platform has been deployed with hundreds of Italian and European companies.
Why now? The founders declined institutional capital for three years, financing the company themselves with Swiss angel support until the product and commercial model were proven in production. "Opening the cap table now is a decision about velocity, not survival," Bounafaa said.
As part of the deal, Luca Ziche, executive board member at HFGA Investment Holding, joins Flottando's board as strategic advisor.
The signal: Flottando's raise reflects a shift in AI software from tools that display data to ones that execute work. As Engelen put it, "Displaying data is a reporting problem. Executing the work is an accountability problem, and it is a much harder one."
