What's the endgame? Founded in 2022 and working out of Tacoma's Petrich Marine Dock, Homeostasis wants to build a domestic supply of engineered graphite. Chief executive officer Makoto Eyre said the company is building "this next-generation supply of engineered graphite for the American electro-industrial base."

Why it matters. Graphite functions as the anode in lithium-ion batteries, and the US relies largely on imported material. Pachamama founder Karen Sheffield called it "arguably the most dangerous single-point failure in the U.S. battery supply chain."

The signal: The global battery-grade graphite market is projected at roughly $25.2 billion a year by 2030, with North America alone near $6 billion, per Sheffield. Homeostasis has lined up automotive manufacturers, US battery cell producers, energy majors, and commodity traders — betting on cheap domestic energy to close a hard supply gap.
