What's the endgame? Turn-Motion wants to replace days of manual labour with a single platform that produces devices in hours. It combines a multi-axis "5D" fibre-placement system, a physics-informed optimisation engine, and an API-first, AI-driven workflow that runs from 3D scan to finished part.
Why now? Custom orthotics production still relies on manual scanning, shaping, and carbon-fibre lay-up, taking one to three weeks per device. A worsening global shortage of qualified orthotists and prosthetists makes that model harder to sustain.
Polymer 3D printing cut some labour but hit a physical ceiling: polymer parts must be thick and stiff to bear load, sacrificing lightweight performance. Continuous carbon-fibre composites deliver the right mechanics but rely on multi-step processes ill-suited to one-off parts.
The market: Noctua sizes the global orthotics and prosthetics market in the high single-digit billions of dollars, growing at a mid-single-digit CAGR. Its investment manager Lukas Rippitsch pointed to demographic ageing, rising diabetes-related interventions, and the clinician shortage as tailwinds.
