Navan buys AI events platform BoomPop, extends beyond travel and expense

What's the deal? Navan has acquired BoomPop, an AI-powered platform for planning and managing corporate meetings and events. The deal, announced September 9, deepens the Palo Alto travel and expense company's push into events. Terms were not disclosed.

What each side brings: Navan (NASDAQ: NAVN) runs a business travel and expense platform. BoomPop, founded in 2023, uses AI to handle events end-to-end — venue and vendor sourcing, room blocks, contracts, and payments.

The track record: BoomPop has supported events for roughly 250,000 people at companies including AccentureDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Amazon, GoogleDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Salesforce, and Shopify. It estimates it has cut customers' booking costs by about 30% on average, across gatherings from 15 people to conferences with thousands.

Why now? The acquisition builds on a partnership the two firms announced earlier this year. Navan is targeting meetings and events because, it says, most of that spend happens outside managed channels.

What's the endgame? Navan wants to offer customers a single destination for travel, expense, payments, meetings, and events. "Fully integrating BoomPop's team and technology into Navan will help us scale our existing meetings and events business," said Michael Sindicich, president of Navan.

What changes? BoomPop co-founder and chief executive officer Healey Cypher said the combination gives customers "one partner for the whole thing, from a ten-person offsite to a 500-person global sales kickoff." Navan said it will draw on prior integrations — including Reed & MackayDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Comtravo, Tripeur, and Smartrips — to ease the transition.

The money angle: Navan expects no material impact on its previously issued guidance from the transaction.

The signal: The deal reflects a broader consolidation in corporate spend management, as travel and expense platforms bolt on adjacent categories to capture more of the budget. By folding events into its stack, Navan bets that companies will pay for fewer, more connected tools.
