Kommuninvest raises $1B in first green dollar bond of the year
What's the deal? KommuninvestDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Sweden's largest lender to the local government and regional sector, has issued $1 billion (about SEK 9.5 billion) in a new green benchmark bond maturing October 10, 2029. It was the year's first green transaction in the US dollar market.
By the numbers: The order book drew over 50 investors and total interest above $2.5 billion. The bond was priced at 25 basis points over mid-swaps.
Why it stands out: The raise ranks among the largest debt rounds in Swedish fintech, sitting in the 96th percentile by amount across nearly 1,000 comparable deals.
What's the endgame? The member-owned credit market company funds housing, infrastructure, schools, and hospitals for Swedish municipalities and regions. Proceeds support a growing pipeline of green investment projects tied to the local government sector's climate goals.
What they're saying: "Kommuninvest's green lending continues to grow, and it is encouraging to see strong investor demand for our green bonds across our three strategic markets: SEK, EUR and USD," said Marcus Waineby, team lead of debt management.
Why now? The deal follows a $1.5 billion benchmark bond in June and a Climate Plan 2026 setting long-term targets to support Sweden's aim of climate neutrality by 2045. Kommuninvest has kept its 2026 funding forecast unchanged at SEK 170–190 billion.
The signal: Strong, diversified demand across three currency markets shows that public-sector green debt still commands deep investor appetite — a signal that sustainability-linked financing remains a durable funding channel for Europe's municipal borrowers.
