What does it do? The San Francisco startup uses computer vision models to read blueprints, running hundreds of automated checks that flag errors, omissions, and coordination conflicts that human reviewers miss. Its models were developed by co-founder and chief technology officer Alex Gureiev.
Why now? Design errors cost the $13 trillion construction industry more than $200 billion a year, and they are cheapest to fix in the drawings — where they are hardest to spot. Buildcheck says it has analysed over 150,000 sheets to date.
By the numbers: The round lands just nine months after a $5.9 million seed, bringing total funding to $18 million. The startup has grown more than 4x since last year to over 110 paying customers, spanning data centres, hospitals, and multifamily and commercial developments.

What's the endgame? The company plans to expand across general contractors, developers, and design firms while launching four product extensions to move from running checks to a full design review platform. One, Custom Checks, turns a firm's own QA/QC manuals into AI review agents that enforce internal standards.
"Automated design reviews are now becoming a market standard," said chief executive officer and co-founder Alexander Michalatos. "We're giving every project a tireless co-worker who understands everything about the project."
Chris Gaertner, a principal at Telescope Partners, said the customer response stood out: "The quality of the logos, their love for the product, and the ROI on their business was unlike anything we'd seen in this market."
The signal: The raise sits above the middle of the pack for its class — a mid-sized Series A that reflects growing appetite for vision-based AI in a sector long resistant to software. As tools that read drawings edge toward becoming standard practice, preconstruction is emerging as a testing ground for where automation can cut costs before ground is broken.
