What's the endgame? VideoGen's AI agents turn a brief or uploaded media into fully editable, copyright-free videos through structured workflows and reusable assets. The platform offers AI voiceovers in more than 200 voices across over 50 languages, one-click translation, and browser-based editing with no downloads.
For developers, it also provides a Text-to-Video API and MCP integration to generate and edit videos programmatically. The company will use the funding to scale its team and grow its brand.
Why now? "Full automation is where video is going, and 5 million users suggest the market agrees," said co-founder and chief executive officer Anton Koenig. Performance marketing, e-commerce, and learning teams already use the platform, and its customers range from individual creators to Fortune 500 teams.
The backstory: Koenig and David Grossman launched VideoGen in 2023 while still in college, pooling $30,000 from internship savings and bootstrapping for a year before joining Y Combinator's S24 batch. The pair met as middle schoolers at a tennis academy, bonding over coding, AI, and online video.
The signal: At $3.3 million, the round sits in the upper tier for seed deals — above roughly 82% of comparable rounds. It reflects investor appetite for tools that automate video production end to end rather than generating single clips. "Nobody wants a clip, they want a finished video," Koenig said.
