HomeHub raises £25,000 loan to scale home tech app

What's the deal? HomeHubDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a UK platform helping elderly and vulnerable residents manage sustainable home technology, has secured a £25,000 Start Up Loan. The Business Enterprise Fund (BEF)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → North East led the financing, backed by the British Business Bank, to improve the app's functionality and user experience.

What's the endgame? Founded by former teacher and project manager Lee Gatley-Hall, HomeHub offers digital guidebooks, instructional videos, and energy-saving advice, alongside recommendations for local suppliers. The app also connects residents directly with landlords. It now has more than 400 registered users.

Why now? Gatley-Hall identified the need through his work across local authority housing and private sector delivery. He cites an elderly neighbour whose energy bills "absolutely skyrocketed" after a heat pump replaced her boiler, because she did not understand the new system.

With HomeHub now generating revenue, he is exploring further investment to scale the business. He said the loan was quicker than expected: "It was all done within a month, and in the scheme of things, it was quite low risk. It made miles more sense than a bank loan."

The signal: The £25,000 sits near the bottom of the funding scale — a modest, low-risk debt facility rather than an equity raise. The Start Up Loans programme has provided around 6,800 loans across the North East, lending more than £66 million to small businesses in the region.
