Opus Safety buys Suresite's health and safety arm in fifth acquisition

What's the endgame? Opus provides tech-enabled health and safety, HR, and occupational health services to SMEs nationwide. Founded by John Southall, Ian Hatherly, and Tom Baverstock, it uses proprietary software — the Opus Compliance Cloud — to help clients digitise operations.

Suresite brings 30 years of expertise in Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) risk assessments and compliance audits. "The Suresite function is a perfect fit," said co-founder John Southall.

The signal: The deal reflects consolidation of boutique providers in the UK safety compliance sector, as backers bet on scale and technology. "The acquisition of Suresite is yet another demonstration of the Opus team's ambition to build a company with strength and depth in personnel, services and technological capabilities," said BGF investor David Bellis.
