Blackburn College acquires Training 2000 from University of Lancashire

What does Training 2000 do? The provider has supported thousands of apprentices and employers across a range of sectors over six decades. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
What's the endgame? Blackburn College wants to combine both organisations' expertise, resources, and employer relationships to strengthen apprenticeship provision in the region.
Dr Fazal Dad CBE, principal and chief executive of Blackburn College, called it "a hugely positive moment for both organisations." He added that the deal would "create one of the strongest apprenticeship and technical education offers in the region."
Why now? The University of Lancashire and Blackburn College have a longstanding partnership. Professor Graham Baldwin OBE DL, vice chancellor of the university, said the transition "provides the strongest foundation for the future success of Training 2000."
Karen Soames, head of business development at Training 2000, said joining Blackburn College "ensures continued investment in high-quality training, first-class facilities and the excellent learner experience."
The signal: The acquisition points to consolidation in regional skills provision, as colleges absorb established training brands to build scale and secure apprenticeship pipelines for local employers.
