Roma AI raises $1.2M seed to scale AI agents across Latin America
What's the deal? Roma AIDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Uruguayan-Chilean startup that lets companies build, run, and govern AI agents inside their own systems, has raised $1.2 million in a seed round. Chile's Invexor Venture PartnersDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → led the round, with angel investor Ramón Heredia also participating.
What's the endgame? The company will spend 55% of the money on hiring, growing its team from nine to 30 people within six months, several of them in Uruguay. Another 33% goes to marketing and events, with the rest split between technology, infrastructure, and operations.
What does it do? Roma AI's platform connects AI agents to business tools — calendars, payment platforms, and catalogues — via APIs, adding traceability, audit trails, and continuous monitoring. It now processes more than 500,000 messages a month for over 50 companies, mainly in regulated sectors such as banking, insurance, healthcare, and retail.
Chief executive officer and cofounder Richard Barbera conceived the company in February 2025 after years building conversational assistants for retailers like CencosudDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. Companies use it to "handle the sale of a car loan end to end or book a dental clinic appointment without human intervention" (translated from Spanish), he said.
Why now? Barbera argues the platform solves a compliance gap. "You can't give OpenAI direct access to your systems for regulatory reasons; our platform integrates inside the company, and that sensitive data stays inside" (translated from Spanish), he said.
The startup charges by conversation volume rather than by project. Plans for small businesses start at 500 monthly conversations for $99, while corporate accounts buy 2,000, 4,000, or 10,000 conversations a month with dedicated support.
The signal: At $1.2 million, the round sits in the 61st percentile for deal size — a modest but above-median seed. It reflects sustained investor appetite for AI agent infrastructure aimed at regulated industries, where governance and data control are as valuable as the automation itself.
