Tenzing takes majority stake in Salzburg data platform Pimcore
What's the deal? UK tech investor Tenzing is acquiring a majority stake in Salzburg-based software company Pimcore. The price was not disclosed, and the deal still awaits antitrust clearance. Founders Dietmar Rietsch and Matthias Blauth stay on operationally, continuing as co-CEOs.
What does Pimcore do? Founded in 2009, it runs a platform for unified data management, pulling product, customer, and content data into a single managed base it calls a single source of truth. It reports more than 120,000 installations and over 400 enterprise customers, from mid-sized firms to Fortune 500 companies across manufacturing, retail, wholesale, consumer goods, and media.
Pimcore appears in two GartnerDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Magic Quadrants: one for Digital Experience Platforms and one for Master Data Management Solutions.
What changes? Munich growth investor Nordwind GrowthDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, which led a $12 million Series B in 2022 and held roughly 73%, is being replaced as the lead backer. Last year Pimcore moved from an open-source community model to an open-core approach, and says it has since grown strongly on an organic basis. The plan under Tenzing is continued organic growth plus possible acquisitions.
Why now? The company links its momentum to AI in product and commerce processes, arguing AI applications depend on cleanly managed data. "An enterprise software company has emerged from a developer community. With Tenzing, we have the partner to scale this platform further internationally, and at exactly the moment when cleanly managed data has become the bottleneck for enterprise AI," said Rietsch (translated from German).
Who's buying? Tenzing, headquartered in London with offices in Munich and Stockholm, backs European B2B software and tech-enabled firms valued between £50 million and £300 million. It manages £1.7 billion across 20 portfolio companies, and Pimcore comes from its £900 million Fund III, investing since 2023.
Pimcore is Tenzing's second deal in the DACH region, after IT managed-services provider MahrDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, whose Munich team the investor says has doubled in 18 months. "Pimcore has created something special: a single platform that gives companies a reliable, consolidated view of their product, customer, and asset data, while most competitors only cover one segment," said Milan Kellner, investment lead at Tenzing (translated from German).
The signal: Tenzing has flagged plans to work the DACH market harder, and this deal signals appetite among European growth investors for data-infrastructure companies positioned to feed enterprise AI.
