What's the endgame? Heidi's AI scribe automates note taking and document generation — tasks that take doctors over two hours a day on average. The company will use the funding to expand beyond scribing into pre-chart summaries, clinical guideline access, and patient engagement outside the clinic.
Why now? The World Health Organization projects a shortfall of 10 million health workers by 2030. Combined with rising demand for care, that gap has piled pressure on clinicians and health systems.
Since launching in February 2024, Heidi's scribe has supported over 20 million patient interactions globally. As of March 2025, clinicians rely on it in over 1 million consults every week across five countries.
Chief executive officer and co-founder Dr Thomas Kelly, a former vascular surgical resident, said an "unsustainable administrative workload" is driving talented clinicians out of medicine. "That's why I founded Heidi — to free doctors from non-clinical work so they can focus on their patients," he said.
Investors framed the round around Heidi's product traction. Taylor Brandt, partner at Headline, said Heidi's "global-first strategy" and product-led approach out of Australia rival tech giants such as Canva and Atlassian. LocalGlobe partner Ferdi Sigona called it "the best product in its category."
The signal: Medical scribes are becoming one of the clearest commercial applications of AI, and the calibre of investors here — including a model developer backing an application built partly on its own technology — underscores how much conviction is flowing into the category.
