Try Dealroom →, the Maryland Technology Development Corporation. The Baltimore-based biotech will use the funds to develop and validate its rapid diagnostic technology as it moves toward regulatory clearance.
What's the endgame? Astek is building the Jiddu Platform, a system designed to deliver antibiotic susceptibility results in under an hour, compared with the 48 to 72 hours needed by traditional culture-based methods. It targets infections such as urinary tract infections, sepsis, and wound infections, giving clinicians faster treatment data at the point of care.
Why now? The company says its first clinical placement arrives this fall, and the new capital is meant to accelerate the program toward FDA clinical trials.
The investment draws on two TEDCO vehicles: its Seed FundsDealroom has a profile for this one. "Five years ago, TEDCO funded an idea for what sounded like a science fiction machine. This fall, that machine goes into its first clinical placement," said Mustafa Al-Adhami, chief executive officer of Astek Diagnostics.
The signal: At $750,000, the round sits near the middle of comparable deals — a modest but characteristic check for early-stage life science work that advances on milestones rather than headline valuations. TEDCO CEO Troy LeMaile-Stovall noted the region has ranked among the nation's top three biopharma clusters "for the fourth year running," underscoring Maryland's steady pull for life sciences startups.
