CLEAResult buys Connected Energy to deepen utility demand-management push

What's the deal? CLEAResultDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, North America's largest provider of energy efficiency and transition services, has acquired Connected Energy, a US technology company that builds demand management and distributed energy resource management (DERMS) tools for electric utilities. Terms were not disclosed.

What each side brings: CLEAResult, based in Austin and majority owned by private equity firm KohlbergDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, employs more than 3,000 people across 60-plus cities in the US and Canada. Connected Energy, founded in 2004, offers a DERMS platform plus hardware-based direct load control and a specialized agricultural demand response capability.

The rationale: The acquisition extends CLEAResult's existing utility work into commercial, industrial, and agricultural markets. Connected Energy's platform handles event orchestration, optimization, data visualization, and performance reporting for utility demand programs.

Why now? "There's real pressure on utilities to manage demand and integrate distributed energy resources, and they need partners who can deliver," said Rich McBee, CLEAResult's chief executive officer.

What's the endgame? CLEAResult frames the deal as deepening an established practice rather than starting a new one. "CLEAResult gives us the scale and relationships to bring those solutions to more utilities," said Connected Energy chief executive officer Mark Rupnik.

The signal: Utility demand pressure is intensifying, driven partly by surging data center consumption and accelerating adoption of distributed energy resources. Consolidating software, hardware, and program delivery under one roof positions CLEAResult to sell utilities a fuller stack as grids strain to keep pace.
