TidalSense raises £16M to scale AI diagnostic device for COPD
What's the deal? Cambridge-based TidalSense has raised £16 million in late-stage venture funding to accelerate European and US commercialisation of its AI diagnostic device for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
What does it do? TidalSense's N-Tidal Diagnose software uses AI-analysed tidal breathing rather than the forced exhalation required by spirometry to deliver a fast, non-invasive diagnosis of COPD. Patients breathe normally into a handheld device for 75 seconds to capture a CO2 waveform, which the AI models analyse in under five minutes.
By the numbers. The company's models were trained on more than 2.5 million patient breaths and scored above 90% on key diagnostic-accuracy metrics in its first post-market validation at the European Respiratory Society congress in 2025. TidalSense estimates that clinicians can see approximately four to six patients per hour with the software, compared with roughly one patient per hour using traditional spirometry.

Why now? The funding will support commercialisation across Europe and prepare TidalSense for US market entry. Its N-Tidal Diagnose software is CE marked under EU MDR (Class IIa) for COPD.
