SweGaN raises $14M to scale European GaN-on-SiC chip output

What's the deal? SweGaN, a Linköping, Sweden-based semiconductor firm, has closed a $14 million Series B round led by Swedish investor Thisbe AB and Copenhagen-based North VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, alongside existing shareholders. The company designs and manufactures custom gallium nitride on silicon carbide (GaN-on-SiC) epitaxial wafers using proprietary growth technology. The round brings total funding to $41 million.

Why now? The financing follows a period the company describes as strong execution, marked by an expanding customer base, new partnerships, and key customer qualification milestones. It was raised as an up-round.

What's the endgame? SweGaN will use the proceeds to expand production capacity, strengthen its commercial presence in key markets, invest in talent and infrastructure, and accelerate research on next-generation GaN-on-SiC materials.

What they said: "This financing is a strong validation of our technology, team, and strategy," said chief executive officer Jr-Tai ChenDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. Chief financial officer Stefan Axelsson called the up-round "a strong endorsement of SweGaN's progress and long-term potential."

The signal: Investors are framing the deal around European supply-chain autonomy. GaN-on-SiC materials are used in higher-frequency, higher-power and more energy-efficient chips, a segment where demand is rising. "We believe it is well positioned to become an increasingly important European supplier of GaN-on-SiC materials and help strengthen Europe's technological sovereignty," said North Ventures' investment manager Mikkel Strandkjær.
