The terms: The purchase was made at a 28.42% discount to ES Sunlogy's closing price on August 13. It was funded internally and is not expected to materially affect KPGB's earnings, net assets, or gearing for the financial year ending December 31, 2026.

The deal lifted Acumen's holding from 9.09%, which followed an RM18.76 million subscription for 70 million new ES Sunlogy shares in July 2026. What's the endgame? KPGB said the move fits its investment strategy and strengthens its strategic position. It pointed to ES Sunlogy's engineering and renewable energy businesses as offering favourable long-term growth.

The group cited rising investments in renewable energy infrastructure, energy transition initiatives, and sustainable development as tailwinds. The transaction needs no shareholder or regulatory approval, and KPGB's board deems it in the group's best interests.

The signal: A construction-focused group deepening its bet on renewables signals where capital is flowing as energy transition gathers pace in Malaysia.
