Why now? The raise marks the first investment from Quidnet Ventures Fund IIDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. It gives Ocean Intelligence a 24-month operating runway to accelerate product development and enter the Australian market.
What's the endgame? The company's modular software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform pulls real-time marine environmental data into a single operating picture. That helps marine operators detect threats such as harmful algal blooms, anticipate storms, monitor farm conditions remotely, and make time-critical decisions across aquaculture, port operations, and environmental monitoring.
Mussel and oyster operations across New Zealand already use the platform, and expansion into Australia is planned.
Investor view: "Marine operators everywhere are drowning in disconnected data feeds while making time-critical decisions about safety, sustainability, and production," said Mark Bregman, founder and managing partner of Quidnet Ventures. "Ocean Intelligence turns that flood of data into a clear operating picture."
Chief executive officer Joel Bowater called the close "a significant milestone," adding that it lets Ocean Intelligence "take New Zealand ocean science to the world — starting with Australia."
The signal: The round shows investor appetite for turning specialist marine research into commercial software, betting that operators managing safety, production, and environmental risk will pay to replace fragmented data with a single dashboard.
