Bridge to Life raises $110M Series C to scale FDA-cleared liver perfusion system

What's the endgame? The company wants to make its VitaSmart Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion (HOPE) System the standard of care in liver transplantation. In January 2026, it received US Food and Drug Administration De Novo clearance, making VitaSmart the first and only hypothermic oxygenated perfusion system authorised for liver transplants.

Where the money goes: Most proceeds will expand the field team and provide working capital to reach every US transplant centre. The rest funds a pipeline that includes a proprietary viability assessment tool and expansion beyond liver into other solid organ transplants.

Why now? The company says VitaSmart has become part of routine practice in six months, with master service agreements signed at leading academic centres and several of the nation's highest-volume liver programmes. The financing also refinanced its Perceptive Credit Funds facility, cutting leverage and lowering its interest rate as it shifts from development to full commercial operation.

"The VitaSmart launch has outpaced our expectations, as leading academic centres are adopting it rapidly," said Don Webber, chief executive officer and president.

Soleus partner Ben Lund said the firm invested because Bridge to Life "pairs an established preservation franchise with a newly FDA-cleared perfusion platform that is already rapidly being adopted in the field."

The signal: At $110 million, this round sits near the top of its category — larger than roughly 92% of all-time Series C rounds raised by US health companies. That scale reflects investor conviction that machine perfusion is moving from clinical promise to routine practice across transplant medicine.
