Monterro takes majority stake in maritime software firm Grieg Connect

What's the endgame? Grieg Connect wants to expand across Europe and other international markets, both organically and through acquisitions. Its products cover port call management, berth planning and invoicing.

Why now? The company says it will use the investment to build AI into its software, with Monterro providing expertise in software technology, AI, go-to-market strategy and international growth.

Chief executive officer Espen Ranvik said Grieg Connect had been looking for a partner with experience in scaling software companies to support its expansion.

"We have followed Grieg Connect for some time and have been impressed by the team, the product and the strong market position they have built," said Nils Olsson, incoming chair of Grieg Connect at Monterro.

The signal: Software investors are increasingly targeting niche maritime tooling, betting that AI and consolidation can turn specialist operators into pan-European platforms.
