HazardCo buys Gtee to extend compliance from site to handover

The move extends HazardCo's capability beyond on-site safety into defect management, warranties, and maintenance across New Zealand and Australia. Terms were not disclosed.
What does each side do? HazardCo simplifies health and safety compliance on-site and is used by more than 10,000 businesses and 100,000 users. Gtee connects building companies directly to homeowners, collating warranty and maintenance information and sending reminders when tasks are due.
What's the rationale? Its Defect Manager lets teams record issues and track defects across projects. "Health and safety is only one piece of the compliance puzzle that building companies have to deal with every day," said Iain Dixon, chief executive officer at HazardCo.
Why now? The deal lands as New Zealand builders prepare for changes under the Building Amendment Bill. The reforms introduce proportionate liability and mandatory home warranties — a one-year defect warranty and a 10-year structural warranty for consented new builds and renovations valued at $100,000 or more.
Under the changes, liability sits proportionately with whoever is at fault, whether the building company, council, or engineer. Councils will no longer act as the "last man standing" in defect claims. Gtee gives builders tools to manage the new warranty requirements.
What changes for customers? Nothing immediately. Gtee will keep running as it does today, backed by the same team and support crew, with no interruption to service or account management.
Who built it? Gtee was co-founded by Mark Potter, one of HazardCo's original co-founders. "Bringing Gtee into the HazardCo family allows us to deliver a complete approach that makes compliance simple from the site to handover," Potter said. In Australia, where Gtee is expanding, the platform helps builders track defect rectifications and cut handover disputes.
The signal: As regulators tighten liability and warranty rules across residential construction, compliance software is consolidating to cover the full build lifecycle. HazardCo is betting that builders want one system spanning safety, defects, and handover — rather than stitching together separate tools.
