Germany's Lily Labs exits stealth with Mätch VC-led seed round
What's the deal? Lily LabsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a German cloud infrastructure startup founded by Milan Wiedemann and Leon Kaiser, has raised a seed round led by Mätch VCDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The company disclosed neither the amount nor a valuation.
What's the endgame? Lily wants to rebuild the cloud stack from the ground up, replacing virtual machines, containers, Kubernetes and heavy configuration with WebAssembly running in an isolated runtime close to the hardware.
The platform aims to automate scaling, monitoring, routing and recovery without a traditional orchestrator, scheduler or cluster. Lily says this can cut compute consumption by up to 90% versus conventional architectures.
Why now? Alongside the funding, Lily made its platform publicly available for the first time. Developers can initially use it to deploy Next.js applications, among other things.
Mätch VC investor Jan Beisswenger said Lily aims to eliminate the complexity that has accumulated through additional infrastructure layers.
The signal: Lily's bet reflects a broader push to simplify an increasingly complex cloud stack. Whether developers adopt a clean-sheet approach below the container layer remains to be seen.
