Startorus Fusion raises 880M CNY Series A extension for fusion buildout

Who's backing it? Existing investor Shanghai Technology and Innovation Investment FundDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s intellectual property fund continued to participate. The financing follows the company's earlier Series A and A+ rounds, with all three tranches earmarked for the same programme.

What's the endgame? Startorus plans to use the capital to build out its Jiading experimental base in Shanghai and to construct and operate its NTST negative-triangularity spherical tokamak. It also aims to design and build CTRFR-1, known as Startorus-1.

The company is advancing fusion reactor-grade high-temperature superconducting magnets and AI plasma control as part of the effort.

The signal: The size and breadth of the investor group — spanning state-linked funds and bank investment arms — points to growing institutional appetite for fusion energy in China, a sector still years from commercial power generation.
